Movement coaching

Every day when we move our body is serving a purpose: walking to work, cooking to eat, sitting and typing at the computer, running to get the train, whatever that is, the body doesn’t get much space to just be and move in whatever way it needs. Most of the time we don’t even know what these needs are because we’ve made sure to repress them deep below so we can’t hear them anymore. And even when we give our body some space to be, we don’t really know how to start anymore, what to do, it’s hard to drop and really allow without that sense of constant purpose we’re used to. In the one-to-one movement coaching sessions, we will support the body to move its own way without judgment or censure.

Benefits and possibilities:

  • Develop body awareness and intelligence
  • Expand your movement vocabulary
  • Feel more connected and alive in your body
  • Bring more spaciousness and presence into your life
  • Reset your nervous system
  • Release physical and emotional blocks stuck in the body
  • Be more connected to your unconscious and what it needs
  • Develop your non-verbal skills
  • Develop your skill in using your body as a tool of enquiry
  • Develop the art of moving outdoors in dialogue with the environment
  • Liberate yourself and your body from the social and cultural conditioning that constrains you

What to expect from a session?

  • We will use moving / witnessing where we either take turn in moving and being witnessed by one another or I witness you for part or the entire session depending on your needs and intention.
  • I will move with you and guide your movement in a non-verbal way.
  • I will also guide you with verbal invitations and at times with sounding.
  • We always take a bit of time at least at the end and sometime during for you to share your experience in words and get some feedback and suggestions from me.
  • There is no right or wrong in how you move your body. The movement is totally free. It might be very active, it might be very still, it might be very small or very big. There is no expectation in how you should move. The first sessions I will guide you gently into free movement so it doesn’t feel too daunting. After a few sessions you will find it easier to find free movement by yourself.
  • My guidance is always tailored to your needs and what arise in the moment. We make a plan according to your intention and make space to change the plan depending on your state of mind and body at each session so we’re always aligned to your needs of the moment.

The number of sessions will vary from person to person but I generally ask for a commitment of 3 sessions to begin with to allow a process to unfold. We will agree on the required frequency needed between sessions at the first session depending on your needs and intention.

Sessions last 60 minutes and are given in my flat in London Fields or take place outdoors in Hackney Marshes. Zoom sessions are also possible.

Fees are on a sliding scale between £40-£80. If unsure have a look at this sliding scale graphic to help you choose where you are on the sliding scale.

Testimonials

I have been working with Claire for over a year. I can say that, in my experience, she has a lot to offer. She is reliable and consistently gentle in her sensorial approach to movement, both while practising with an individual and with a group of people. Working with one’s condition and patterns, she holds space to find one’s physical expression in relation to the natural environment, connecting inner and outer landscapes and incorporating human and non-human elements. She has acted as a witness to my somatic process as it unfolds through time and space with an attuned presence. Intermittently, she offers suggestions or makes an invitation to trust the movement by following and connecting with an aliveness or pausing in dynamic stillness, deepening my relationship with the body’s impulses and rhythms, giving each type of gesture and position equal value in time and place.’

‘Claire provided a unique space to allow me to explore gesture and movement for its own sake, not with an end goal in mind, just in response to whatever arose and this was so liberating for me. I had read from Iain McGilchrist’s work that most communication goes on without language, and part of me was sceptical about this. But in Claire’s sessions I was able to experience this directly: there are truths that can be communicated and felt by others through movement that words just cannot. I got a profound sense of being heard even though nothing was spoken.’
