Nettle cordage workshop

Learn the ancient craft of transforming stinging nettles into strong, versatile cordage. This traditional skill connects us to our ancestors who relied on plant fibres for everything from fishing lines to clothing.

We will start the workshop by a sensory tea to meet nettle before we dive in the cordage making.

What to expect

    • Begin with a sensory nettle tea ceremony, connecting with this remarkable plant as an equal being
    • Experience nettle through all your senses before working with its fibres
    • Learn how to safely harvest and prepare stinging nettles
    • Extract and process the strong outer fibres
    • Master the simple twist technique to create your own cordage
    • Take home your handmade nettle cord and the skills to continue practising

This workshop honours the relationship between humans and plants, recognizing nettle as a teacher and partner in the creative process. The sensory tea experience offers a meaningful way to understand and appreciate nettle’s gifts before transforming its fibres into something new.
